The entrance to the Charles Bridge, guarded by the Old Town Tower - Prague showing off again. Evening light on the Old Town Bridge Tower and the green dome of St. Francis of Assisi, watching over the Vltava since the 14th century. Prague’s skyline is layers of history
The dark tower on the right is the Old Town Bridge Tower, a Gothic gate built in the late 14th century as the grand entrance to Charles Bridge from the Old Town side. The green dome belongs to the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, a Baroque church finished in the 1600s and part of the historic Klementinum complex. Charles Bridge itself was commissioned by King Charles IV in 1357 and was, for centuries, the only way to cross the Vltava River between Prague Castle and the Old Town.
