Locked eyes with one of nature’s most effective hunters. The intensity in that orange gaze is unforgettable. Two large Eurasian eagle-owls (Bubo Bubo) perched on mossy bricks, their mottled feathers designed for perfect camouflage in rocky forests. The Eurasian eagle-owls are one of the largest owls in the world with a wingspan of up to 6 feet (188 cm). Their "ears" are actually just feather tufts used for display and camouflage; their real ears are hidden on the sides of their head and are asymmetrical, allowing them to pinpoint the exact vertical and horizontal location of prey in total darkness.
