Time has weathered the stone, but the calm gaze of this ancient pharaoh still feels incredibly alive. A quiet moment frozen in granite - a Pharaoh (Thutmose III) kneeling with offerings of wine and water, a gesture that has lasted millennia.
Seated statues were often placed in temples or tombs to house the ka (spirit) of the pharaoh. The headdress (nemes) and the uraeus cobra on the forehead are symbols of royal authority and divine protection. The pharaoh is shown holding two round pots (Nu-pots), which were used for offering wine, milk, or water to the gods.
