High-alpine ridge trails are common across the Northern Limestone Alps, where old shepherd paths and military routes now serve hikers. Many of these trails cross multiple climate zones in one day — from forested valleys to rocky ridges above the treeline. The grey/white rock is limestone, which creates these dramatic, jagged peaks and karst landscapes.
