The famous Gothic sculptures by
Giovanni Pisano (c. 1250–1315) originally adorned the façade of the
Siena Cathedral (Duomo di Siena) and are now preserved at the Bernisches Historisches in
Bern to protect them from the elements. They represent prophets and philosophers and are known for their dramatic, emotional expressions which were revolutionary for their time.
