Walking among giants and stone corridors where walls are older than all our history books. The detail carved into every inch of these columns found at the Temple of Philae thousands of years ago is humbling.

The carved woman with a sun disk between cow horns on her head is iconography used for the goddesses Hathor and Isis, both powerful mother and sky deities in ancient Egypt. They were worshipped for millennia, with Hathor particularly linked to love, music and joy, and Isis to magic and protection. The carvings depict pharaohs making offerings to gods/goddesses. The columns feature "floral capitals," which were popular in the Ptolemaic period, designed to look like papyrus or lotus bundles.
